Penyakit jantung koroner di Indonesia merupakan penyebab utama kematian urutan pertama bila dibandingkan dengan kanker dengan angka 6 %. Angka kematian tersebut cenderung meningkat, tahun 1995 menduduki peringkat pertama sebesar 19 %, tahun 1998 menjadi 24,4 % dan tahun 2001 meningkat menjadi 24,6 %.

Hal itu dikatakan Prof Dr Soegiyanto KS MS saat menyampaikan pidato pengukuhan sebagai Guru Besar Bidang Fisiologi Olahraga pada Fakultas Ilmu Keolahragaan (FIK) Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) dengan judul “Olahraga Menurunkan Risiko Penyakit Jantung Koroner” di auditorium kampus Sekaran, Selasa (8/5).

Menurutnya, melakukan olahraga teratur dan terprogram bisa menurunkan kemungkinan terkena penyakit jantung koroner. “Bila seseorang sudah menjalankan program latihan sekitar 3 bulan maka tubuhnya akan mengalami perubahan yang lebih baik antara lain bisa terjadi pada tulang, bertambah kuatnya otot, penebalan tulang rawan, peningkatan kadar HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) dan penurunan kadar LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein), serta jantung bertambah besar” kata Prof Soegiyanto yang tercatat sebagai guru besar ke 79 Unnes.

“Berolahraga, terutama yang bersifat aerobik dapat memperbaiki kesehatan jantung dan pembuluh darah karena akan memacu jantung berkerja lebih kuat dan cepat memompa darah untuk menyuplai nutrien dan oksigen ke jaringan seluruh tubuh,” kata guru besar ke-7 di FIK ini.

Prof Soegiyanto juga mengatakan penyebab terjadinya penyakit jantung koroner yakni semakin tambah usia semakin besar resiko untuk terserang. Jenis kelamin laki-laki lebih beresiko dibandingkan perempuan, riwayat keluarga, darah tinggi, merokok, kolesterol, kurang gerak, obesitas, stress, dan gaya hidup,” ujarnya.

Berolahraga adalah solusi

Dia mengemukakan, menurut hasil penelitian di Rumah Sakit Jantung Harapan Kita Jakarta tahun 1993 terungkap 90% penderita serangan jantung koroner merupakan orang-orang yang hidup tanpa berolahraga. Penyakit Jantung Koroner tahun 1970-an menempati urutan ke-11 penyebab kematian di Indonesia, tahun 1986 menempati urutan ke-3 dan tahun 1995 berada di urutan pertama.

Soegiyanto menambahkan, di Amerika Serikat hanya sekitar 36,3 % dari penderita penyakit jantung koroner yang bisa tertolong. Sedangkan yang meninggal rata-rata dalam kurun waktu 37 menit sejak serangan awal. “Penyakit jantung koroner telah menjadi endemi global karena 29,2 % kematian global total tiap tahunnya 16,7 juta orang diakibatkan penyakit kardiovaskuler dan 7,2 juta disebabkan oleh penyakit jantung koroner,” pungkasnya.

Rektor Prof Sudijono Sastroatmodjo dalam sambutannya mengatakan olahraga merupakan cara non-farmakologis dalam mencegah risiko menderita gangguan jantung koroner. Dengan kata lain mencegah sesungguhnya masih lebih utama dari pada mengobati.

Prof Sudijono juga mengemukakan kita berharap setiap diri kita dapat terus berkarya secara maksimal sesuai dengan bidang masing-masing. Ini bisa kita lakukan bila kita sehat dan sempat. Sempat saja tidak cukup, bagi kita untuk bisa berkarya bila kita tidak sehat. Maka menjaga kesehatan menjadi sangat penting bagi diri kita untuk dapat terus berkarya.
