Konser itu diawali dengan rampak tetabuhan yang dimainkan oleh tujuh orang yang memukul-mukul floor dan snare drum. Terkadang bergantian, terkadang bebarengan dan membentuk irama ritmis. Komposisi Parisuka itu dibawakan selama tiga menit.

Setelah itu, Usman Wafa, pencipta komposisi yang juga ikut menabuh, dengan segera berpindah tempat ke depan pemain lainnya. Ia memberi aba-aba bak konduktor orkestra. Alih-alih memberi instruksi, ia dan para pemain tak menghasilkan suara apa pun. Penonton bertanya-tanya, selama dua menit mereka tak mendengar bunyi yang dihasilkan oleh para pemusik di atas panggung. Pemusik yang mereka lihat cuma terdiam: ada yang tertunduk, ada yang menyilangkan tangan.

Ya, dalam Gelar Karya Sendratasik di B6 Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Semarang (FBS Unnes), Sabtu (8/3) malam itu, Usman membawakan karya komponis asal Amerika, John Milton Cage Jr berjudul “4’33” yang dibuat pada 1952. Seperti halnya yang dilakukan John Cage ketika itu, Usman yang dosen di Prodi Seni Musik FBS Unnes, tak memproduksi suara.

“Bunyi apa pun yang dihasilkan oleh pemusik adalah tiruan dari alam. Karya ini mencoba mengajak penonton mendengar suara di sekitarnya selama pertunjukan,” ujar Usman, sesaat sebelum pementasan.

Menurutnya, meskipun setiap pemusik punya idealisme untuk mengeksplorasi bunyi, namun alam dan keadaan pastilah berpengaruh terhadap upaya penciptaan itu. “Setiap pemusik punya keinginan sendiri dan inspirasi datang dari mana pun,” katanya.

Selera mendengar, kata Usman, tergantung dari sejauh mana para pendengar punya pengharapan terhadap bunyi yang bakal dihasilkan oleh penghasil bunyi, dalam hal ini pemusik. “Tidak cuma itu, supaya maksud dari bunyi dapat tersampaikan juga tergantung dari pengalaman estetik, referensi, dan sejauh mana pendengar mengapresiasi,” jelasnya.

Setelah dua menit pemusik tidak menghasilkan bunyi, Usman menyambung pementasan dengan eksplorasi bunyi yang telah ia rekam sebelumnya. Berbagai macam bunyi ia gabung sehingga menghasilkan suara harmonis. Suara yang terdengar pun beragam, mulai gesekan metal, gamelan, hingga tak begitu jelas dihasilkan dari benda apa.

Bersamaan dengan eksplorasi bunyi itu, sepuluh wanita yang terdiri atas dosen dan mahasiswa jurusan yang sama memvisualisasikan bunyi dalam berbagai macam gerakan. Mereka merespon bunyi-bunyi itu dengan gerakan yang juga ganjil: menggelengkan kepala, melambaikan tangan dan kaki, hingga tersenyum dan meringis. Itulah eksplorasi gerak Megat Ruh yang digawangi Sestri Indah Pebrianti, dosen Prodi Seni Tari.

Tak berhenti di situ. Konser berlanjut dengan tetabuhan kayu oleh puluhan mahasiswa yang menyebar di berbagai penjuru gedung, tidak lagi di atas panggung. Mereka bermain di sela penonton yang menyesaki ruang. Diawali dari tetabuhan lesung oleh empat mahasiswi, sesekali bergantian dengan pemain lain dari berbagai penjuru, dan diakhiri dengan tetabuhan bersama dan membentuk pola. Pertunjukan diakhiri dengan orasi Hari Musik Nasional yang diperingati setiap 9 Maret. Orasi berjudul “Keroncong” disampaikan secara puitis oleh dosen Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Jawa FBS Unnes, Ucik Fuadhiyah.
