Ajang Pekan Seni Mahasiswa Nasional (Peksiminas) menyiapkan mahasiwa agar ikut berkontribusi dalam membangun peradaban. Peksiminas meningkatkan wawasan, kecintaan, dan kreativitas dalam seni dan budaya.

“Dengan kegiatan rutin dua tahunan ini, mahasiswa memiliki ikatan emosi karena mendapat sentuhan itu,” kata Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan M Nuh ketika membuka Peksiminas XI, Senin (2/7), di auditorium Universitas Mataram, Nusa Tenggara Barat.

Menurut Nuh, mahasiswa sebagai penggerak peradaban seharusnya tidak hanya mengandalkan kekuatan logika. Tapi dengan kemuliaan kesantunan dan estetika, semua itu akan melengkapi karakter masyarakat Indonesia. “Membangun masyarakat itu tak hanya dari sisi fisik, namun harus dilengkapi dari sisi kebudayaan,” ujarnya.

Menyinggung produk seni dan budaya Indonesia yang sering diklaim negara lain, Nuh mengajak masyarakat untuk melakukan dua hal, yakni meng-konservasi dan mempromosikan. “Selain itu, kita harus memikirkan kesejahteraan para seniman. Mereka adalah pelaku dan telah berperan secara nyata dalam keberlangsungan seni dan budaya asli kita,” kata Nuh.

Rektor Universitas Mataram Prof Sunarpi dalam kesempatan yang sama menuturkan, Peksiminas tahun ini diikuti 857 peserta dari 28 propinsi. “Dari 16 tangkai yang dilombakan, ada satu yang tak bisa diselenggarakan, yaitu tangkai film pendek,” katanya.

Gubernur Nusa Tenggara Barat M Zainul Majdi yang sambutannya dibacakan Sekretaris Daerah  mengungkapkan, momentum Peksiminas merupakan kesempatan strategis untuk mengingat kembali kultur Indonesia. “Kita harus memaknai kembali apa itu makna keberagaman di tengah kondisi bangsa nyatanya masih banyak benturan akan hal itu,” ujarnya.

Pembukaan Peksiminas XI dimeriahkan berbagai kesenian daerah. Hingga 6 Juli 2012, lomba ini dilangsungkan di beberapa tempat di Mataram, NTB.
