Hobi menulis tidak hanya membuahkan rasa senang. Bagi beberapa orang, menulis dimanfaatkan untuk menyebarkan nilai-nilai kebaikan. Rahmat Petuguran, melalui buku Melawan Kuasa Perut, salah satunya. Melalui tulisan ia mengajak pembaca mewaspadi konsumerisme.

Apa yang berbahaya pada konsumerisme? Bagi dosen Bahasa Indonesia Unnes ini, bahaya konsumerisme tidak hanya terlihat di luar. Ia melihat adanya ketidakseimbangan relasi antara masyarakat dengan institusi kapital. Masyarakat cenderung mengamini doktrin konsumtif institusi kapital. Dengan mekanisme sosial tertentu, kesadaran publik direkayasa agar selalu pasrah menjadi konsumen.

“Nah, buku Melawan Kuasa Perut berisi uraian reflektif tentang kondisi yang tidak seimbang itu. Kian hari, manusia kian menuruti kehendak perutnya. Manusia cenderung mengabaikan nilai-nilai yang hidup dalam ingatan batinnya, supaya bisa memuaskan perut. Perut adalah semacam idiom, representasi dari kehendak lahiriah yang tiada habisnya,” terang Rahmat pada acara softlaunching bukunya, Kamis (29/5) di Sekaran.

Soal pembentukan identitas masyarakat sebagai konsumen, ia mencontohkan, dilakukan melalui instrument sosial. Ada beragam instrument, seperti mitos, iklan, bahasa, dan citraan.

“Bahasa alay, misalnya, itu tidak lahir dengan sendirinya. Saya membaca , itu bagian dari rekayasa sosial yang disponsori institusi kapital. Dengan memperkenalkan ragam bahasa itu, mereka ingin membantuk identitas anak muda Indonesia yang labil, kekanak-kanakan, dan mudah terpengaruhi. Sasran akhrinya apa? Remaja kita mudah dijadikan sasaran pasar bagi produk-produk yang mereka tawarkan,” katanya.

Sebagai penulis, Rahmat mengakui, ia memiliki ketertarikan pada hal-hal sederhana di sekelilingnya. Dari hal sederhana itulah, ia menemukan makna lain di balik sesuatu yang tampak. Orang-orang yang nonton televisi, misalnya, adalah hal sederhana. Namun ia justru menangkap ada persoalan di sana.

“Nonton televisi adalah praktik kultural. Ada transfer nilai dari produsen tayangan kepada penonton. Pola dan motifasi yang melibatkan produsen dan penonton bisa dibaca. Kebanyakan bermotif kapital,” lanjutnya.

Pada buku yang sama, lebih spesifik Rahmat mempersoalkan kuis di televisi. Menurutnya, acara kuis yang menawarkan hadiah besar telah memanipulasi kesadaran publik bahwa untuk kaya tidak perlu bekerja keras. Melalu kuis, televise mendidik adanya jalan pintas untuk sejahtera.

“Cuma dengan joget-joget saja bisa dapat puluhan juta. Tinggal pilih kotak atau tirai bisa dapat sepeda motor. Ideology “kaya cepat” seperti ini bahaya kalau terus menerus dikonsumsi masyarakat. Lama-lama akan mengendap dan menjadi nilai yang akuisisi masyarakat,” katanya.

Sikap Rahmat dibaca profesor antropologi seni Unnes Prof Dr Tjetjep Rohendi sebagai sikap kebudayaan perlawanan. Menurutnya, sebagai aktor kebudayaan, Rahmat memosisikan diri sebagai wakil kalangan muda miskin yang galau terhadap berbagai fenomena sosial di sekitarnya.

“Ia risu melihat perkembangan teknologi yang demikian cepat. Di sisi lain, masyarakat dan kebudayaan terseok-seok mengikuti perkembangan itu. Dengan dampak kesenjangan yang semkain lebar antara system nilai dengan keterbukaan tanpa batas, batas moral menjadi longgar dan batasan pribadi dipertanyakan,” katanya.

Lanjut Prof Tjetjep, di balik semua itu, Rahmat melihat merasakan ada kekuasaan dan ideology yang menekan masyarakat, yakni ideology kapital.

“Dengan tegas, Rahmat menyampaikan semua itu melalui tulisan yang merefleksikan cara pandangnya. Tulisan menjadi sarana perlawanannya karena ia yakin lebih demokratis dan berdampak lebih besar,” katanya.
