Selain memberikan bekal pengalaman kepada mahasiswa, kuliah kerja nyata (KKN) juga tetap relevan dan mempercepat proses pembangunan masyarakat. Dengan cara itu, keterjalinan antara perguruan tinggi dan masyarakat akan selalu terjaga.

Kepala Pusat Pengembangan KKN Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes), Dr Dwijanto MS, mengemukakan hal itu ketika memberikan pembekalan kepada mahasiswa KKN Alternatif Tahap I tahun akademik 2013/2014, Sabtu (15/3), di kampus Sekaran, Gunungpati, Semarang.

Menurutnya, KKN tetap relevan memberi sumbangsih nyata kepada masyarakat. “Mahasiswa akan dihadapkan pada berbagai persoalan di masyarakat. Tidak cuma yang berkait dengan disiplin ilmunya, tetapi mahasiswa juga harus membaur dan mengaktualisasikan dirinya,” kata dosen di Jurusan Matematika Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA) Unnes itu.

Pelaksanaan KKN yang secara operasional ditangani oleh Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LP2M) Unnes ini, menurut Dwijanto, diharap membekali mahasiswa dalam hal keterampilan, wawasan, serta daya nalar. “Ada berbagai bidang yang akan ditangani, di antaranya pendidikan, kesehatan, pemberdayaan masyarakat, dan kerja sama,” katanya.

Dwijanto juga berharap kepada mahasiswa supaya melaksanakan KKN dengan penuh tanggung jawab dan kedisiplinan. Mahasiswa harus peka terhadap kondisi yang ada. “Mahasiswa belajar bermasyarakat dan harus menjaga nama baik sendiri dan lembaga,” katanya.

KKN Alternatif Tahap I yang dilaksanakan selama 45 hari mulai 17 Maret 2014 menerjunkan sebanyak 210 mahasiswa. Mereka dibimbing oleh 7 dosen pembimbing yang akan memberi arahan dalam penyusunan program maupun kegiatan di lapangan. “Tempat pelaksanaan KKN ini berada di empat kecamatan, yakni Gunungpati, Mijen, Boja, dan Ungaran,” katanya.
