Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM) berbakat menjadi salah satu faktor kunci bagi Unnes agar bisa terus maju menjadi universitas berkelas internasional. Maka, selain terus menjaring SDM berbakat agar mau bergabung membesarkan Universitas Konservasi, Unnes perlu mengoptimalkan peran SDM berbakat ini pada bidang masing-masing.

Saran itu disampaikan Dr Jamil Salmi, pakar pendidikan tinggi internasional yang dulu aktif bekerja di Bank Dunia. Dr Jamil Salmi menyampaikan itu dalam konferensi “Constructing World-Class University: The road to academic excellence” yang berlangsung 22 dan 23 Agustus 2013 di di Hotel The Mira, Hongkong, sebagaimana dilaporkan Kepala International Office Unnes Hendi Pratama MA kepada unnes.ac.id.

Dr Jamil Salmi yang profesor emeritius Universitas Diego Portales dan Universitas Brunei Darusalam menyarankan perguruan tinggi aktif peneliti-peneliti yang untuk mendongkrak publikasi sehingga diakui international. Menurutnya, ini langkah strategis yang penting agar perguruan tinggi mampu mewujudkan visi menjadi perguruan tinggi yang diakui secara global.

Pada konferensi yang dihadiri ahli dari Hongkong, Filipina, Malaysia, India, Lavia, dan Australia ini Unnes mengirimkan tujuh delegasi, yakni Rektor Prof Dr Fathur Rokhman MHum, Pembantu Rektor Bidang Adminsitrasi Umum Dr Wahyono MM, Ketua LP2M Drs Bambang BR MSi, Dekan FMIPA Prof Dr Wiyanto MSi, Dekan FBS Prof Dr Agus Nuryatin MHum, Dekan FE Dr S Martono, serta Kepala International Office Hendi Pratama MA.

Rektor Unnes mempresentasikan gagasan yang berjudul “Path to Building an International Conservation University”. Delegasi Unnes yang lain, Dr Wahyono MM. dan Drs Bambang Budi Raharjo MSi, mempresentasikan “Improving Efficiency in State University Research Management.” Presentasi lainnya dibawakan oleh Prof Dr Agus Nuryatin MHum. dan Dr S Martono, MSi berjudul “The Importance of Cultural Conservation and Synchronization in Constructing World-Class Universities.”

Presentasi terakhir dari delegasi Unnes dibawakan oleh Prof Dr Wiyanto MSi dan Hendi Pratama, SPd MA dengan judul “Human Resource Development Challenges in a Fast Pace World Class Competition”.

Pembicara dari universitas lain adalah Dr Rupesh P Vasani dari Gujarat Tech University, Prof Patrick Crookes dari Universitas Wollongong, Prof Birgit Lohmann dari Universitas Sunshine Coast, Dr Mareks Zeltins dari Riga Tech University, Patricia B. Lagunda dari Universitas Baliuag dan Rosanna Tsoi dari Institut Pendidikan Hongkong. Masing-masing pembicara membeberkan strategi yang digunakan universitas mereka dalam rangka meningkatkan reputasi di tingkat internasional. Keterlibatan delegasi Unnes dalam kegiatan ini direkomendasi dan disponsori oleh Islamic Development Bank.

“Saya tidak menduga Unnes mampu menginternalisasi satu nilai pokok (konservasi –red) dari berbagai sisi kebijakan dan dari setiap level pimpinan. Hal ini patut diapresiasi,” kata Patrick Crookes dengan logat Australianya yang kental dalam sesi tanya jawab dengan presenter dari Unnes.
