Ilmu geografi telah menjadi salah satu ilmu pengetahuan penting yang diajarkan di berbagai tingkat di hampir seluruh negara di dunia. Masing-masing negara membelajarkan geografi kepada siswa dengan cara yang berbeda.

Untuk melihat karakteristik pembelajaran geografi di berbagai negara, Jurusan Geografi Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) menggelar studium general tema Perbandingan Pembelajaran Geografi Kelas Internasional dan di Indonesia, Sabtu (25/6) di Gedung C7 Lantai 3 FIS UNNES.

Ketua Jurusan Geografi Dr. Tjaturahono BS menjelaskan kegiatan ini adalah suplemen mata kuliah Strategi Pembelajaran Geografi. Materi yang diberikan adalah tentang Pembelajaran kelas internasional, Public Speaking and Build Confidence, dan Pembelajaran di Indonesia.

Hadir sebagai pembicara adalah Maria Lackovicova dari Slovakia, Abhner Eli Leal Odreman (Venezuela), Abdulghani (Libya), Marta Beata Kupsch (Polandia),  Ginanjar Bagus Utomo dan Sat Siswa B Aji (Trainer Marketing LG Electronic Semarang), serta  Agustin (Guru SMA Negeri 1 Semarang).

Dari kegiatan ini tampak sejumlah perbedaan pembelajaran di masing-masing negara. Pembelajaran di Slovakia, misalnya, sekolah dasar dibagi dua jenjang yaitu jenjang pertama selama lima tahun dan jenjang kedua selama empat tahun. Adapun sekolah menengah dilaksanakan  3 tahun.

Pada jenjang perguruan tinggi, biaya pendidikan di tanggung oleh pemerintah, mahasiswa dibebaskan dari biaya pendidikan selama kurun waktu yang ditentukan sesuai jurusan yang diambil, umumnya 3-2 tahun.

Sebelum masuk perguruan tinggi para calon mahasiswa diberikan bimbingan dan layanan konseling serta tes psikologi oleh pemerintah, sehingga dapat memilih konsentrasi program studi yang sesuai dengan bakat, minat, serta prospek kerja calon mahasiswa setelah  menamatkan studi.

Di Venezuela jenjang pendidikan dasar selama 6 tahun, menengah pertama selama 5 tahun, dan menengah atas 3 tahun. Jenjang S1 membutuhkan waktu 5 tahun. Di Libya dan Polandia pembelajaran hampir sama dengan di Indonesia.
