Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam (FMIPA) Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) mengadakan Konferensi Peneliti dan Pemerhati Burung di Indonesia yang ke-4, Kamis – Sabtu (7-9/2) di Auditorium UNNES Sekaran.

Saat ini di Indonesia marak perburuan dan perdagaangan satwa liar dalam berbagai bentuk. Itu dibuktikan dengan, banyaknya pedagang menjual berbagai jenis burung seperti perkici pelangi, betet, kasuari kepala hitam, elang, bahkan alap-alap pun ada. Yang lebih memprihatinkan lagi, satwa tersebut mulai diperdagangkan secara online.

Salah satu cara untuk mengurangi perburuan dan perdagangan burung liar adalah pendekatan yang dilakukan oleh peneliti dan pemerhati burung dari berbagai latar belakang ilmu melalui Konferensi Peneliti dan Pemerhati Burung di Indonesia (KPPBI) yang ke-4 dengan mengusung tema, “ Stop Perburuan dan Perdagangan Ilegal”.

Konferensi Nasional juga menjadi media pertemuan ilmiah untuk mendesiminasikan hasil penelitian atau pengamatan. Peneliti dan pemerhati bisa saling bertukar informasi terkini tentang dunia perburungan di Indonesia.

Ketua Panitia Margareta Rahayuningsih mengatakan, tujuan diadakannya konferensi ini adalah menyebarluaskan informasi terkini terkait konservasi burung di Indonesia, meningkatkan jaringan dan peran antar peneliti dan pemerhati burung, dan mengembangkan pengetahuan tentang burung di Indonesia.

Rektor UNNES Prof Dr Fathur Rokhman MHum saat membuka acara ini menyampaikan, UNNES sebagai universitas yang berwawasan konservasi mendukung penuh kegiatan semacam ini. Konferensi ini adalah upaya melestarikan burung-burung liar di Indonesia beserta habitatnya. Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara terkaya jenis burung dengan ribuan jenis.

Ia menambahkan, jumlah yang sangat banyak tentu akan menjadi tantangan untuk melestarikan tiap jenis burung di Indonesia. Karena itu, Burung Indonesia menggalang dukungan masyarakat dan para pihak untuk bersama-sama melestarikan alam nusantara.

Sementara, Direktur Konservasi Keanekaragaman Hayati pada Direktorat Jenderal Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam dan Ekosistem Ir Bambang Dahono Adji MM MSi menjelaskan, konservasi burung dapat dilakukan dengan penangkaran sebagai upaya perbanyakan melalui pengembangbiakan dan pembesaran tumbuhan dan satwa liar dengan tetap mempertahankan kemurnian jenisnya.

Tampil sebagai keynote speaker, Ir. Wiratno, M.Sc. (Dirjen KSDAE), Prof. Vijak Chimchome, PhD (Faculty of Forestry – Kasetsart University), Bas Van Balen (Peneliti dan Pemerhati Burung Indonesia), Adam Miller (Planet Indonesia), Dwi Nugroho Adhiasto (World Conservation Society), Riza Marlon (Wild Photography), Prof. Ani Mardiastuti (IPB), Dr Dewi Malia Prawiradilga, M.Sc. (LIPI), Dr Pramana Yuda (Lecturer of UAJY), Muhammad Iqbal (Daemeter Consulting).

Pada tanggal 10 Februari akan diadakan Birdwatching Field Trip lokasi di Rawa Pening, Ambarawa, Kabupaten Semarang.
