Setelah sukses mencapai puncak gunung Kilimanjaro di Benua Afrika (2009) dan Elbrus di Benua Eropa (2011) kini Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam (Mahapala) Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) bersiap-siap akan melakukan expedisi Mahapala III ke puncak tertinggi Gunung Aconcagua di benua Amerika.

Setelah menjalani serangkaian training centre selama enam bulan akhirnya tim teknis Mahapala menetapkan enam calon atlet expedisi Mahapala III yang akan melakukan Spirit of Indonesian Youth Expedition Part III ke puncak tertinggi Gunung Aconcagua, Minggu (5/5) di sekretariat Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) Mahapala.

Mereka adalah Miftakhul Ulum dari Teknik Mesin, Hermawati (Pendidikan Luar Sekolah), M. Syaefudin (Teknik Mesin), Putra Triya Atmaja (Pendidikan Luar Sekolah), Suparjo Rustam (Pendidikan Geografi), dan Indra Dwi P. (Pend. Sosiologi antropologi).

Marifah ketua pelaksana mengatakan keenam atlet yang terpilih ini telah dipertimbangkan oleh tim teknis melalui tes fisik, Psikologi, Ketekunan, Kedisiplinan, dan tes wawancara.

Marifah juga mengemukakan, atlet yang terpilih ini akan melakukan kegiatan latihan terus yang semakin berat, nantinya bulan November 2013 akan diseleksi lagi diambil tiga atlet sebagai final untuk mendaki ke puncang Gunung Aconcagua di benua Amerika yang terkenal sebagai mountain devil.

Marifah menambahkan, kegiatan yang dikemas dengan judul Spirit of Indonesian Youth Expedition Part III ini merupakan agenda dua tahunan untuk melakukan seven summit di dunia.
