Jangan pernah menyiakan potensi kecerdasan anak usia empat tahun ke bawah. Sebab, seluruh potensi kecerdasan anak ada pada usia itu.

Pernyataan tersebut disampaikan oleh Dr Gutama MPd, Sekretaris Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini Kemendikbud pada Seminar Nasional Membangun Masyarakat melalui Pendidikan Nonformal di Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan (FIP) Unnes, Kamis (3/11).

Dia mengatakan, kelompok anak yang mendapatkan layanan PAUD dengan baik, lebih banyak bekerja di pasar kerja, memiliki gaji lebih baik, ketergantungan pada program subsidi lebih rendah, jarang melakukan pelanggaran, harmonis dalam keluarga, dan lebih perhatian terhadap pendidikan anak. “Perkembangan sosial melalui penggunaan bahasa dan interaksi yang dilakukan anak PAUD lebih baik, sehingga lebih mudah beradaptasi dengan lingkungan,” katanya.

Pada kesempatan yang sama, hadir pula Prof Dr Rasdi Eko Siswoyo MSc sebagai pemateri tentang pendidikan nonformal. “Sebagai pengganti dan pelengkap pendidikan formal, pendidikan nonformal diselenggarakan untuk memperluas dan meningkatkan pengetahuan, sikap, dan keterampilan untuk menghadapi dunia kerja,” kata mantan Rektor IKIP Semarang yang kini menjadi Unnes.

Pada kenyataannya, sampai akhir 2010 kira-kira 50% anak usia dini di Indonesia belum terlayani PAUD. “Sebagian besar pendidik PAUD belum memenuhi kualifikasi yang diharapkan, sehingga penyelenggaraannya masih terkesan seadanya,” katanya.

Pemateri lain, Kepala Pusat Pengembangan Pendidikan Nonformal dan Informal (P2PNFI) Regional 2 Semarang Dr Ade Kusmiadi MPd memberikan data statistik. “Sampai akhir 2009 angka lulusan SMP yang tidak melanjutkan sekolah, DO SMA, dan lulus SMA tidak lanjut mencapai 1.749.667 orang. Maka dari itu, peluang kerja melalui program pendidikan nonformal sangat terbuka,” katanya.

“Seminar yang diikuti tidak kurang dari 200 mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Luar Sekolah dari seluruh universitas di Indonesia ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan dan sumbangan pemikiran dalam rangka mewujudkan masyarakat mandiri menuju kemandirian bangsa,” kata Ketua Panitia Dr Sungkowo Edy Mulyono MSi.
