Banyak perokok yang terus merokok karena belum mengetahui bahayan zat yang dikonsumsinya. Mereka merasa rokok telah menjadi aktivitas harian. Padahal, zat-zat yang terkandung pada rokok dapat menyebabkan berbagai penyakit, bahkan menyebabkan kematian.

Direktur Pusat Layanan Kesehatan (Puslakes) Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) dr Mahalul Azam menyampaikan hal itu saat menjadi pembicara pada Pendidikan dan Pelatihan yang disenggarakan mahasiswa Jurusan Kurikulum dan Teknologi Pendidikan, Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan (FIP) Unnes, Sabtu (24/5) di Gedung Serba Guna FIP kampus Sekaran dengan tema ”Bersama Tingkatkan Generasi Muda Sadar Rokok”.

“Rokok mengandung 4.000 lebih elemen-elemen, setidaknya 200 diantaranya sangat berbahaya bagi kesehatan bahkan dapat menyebabkan kematian bagi manusia,” kata dr Azam, panggilan akrapnya sehari-hari.

Bahan-bahan yang terkandung itu, kata dr Azam yang juga sebagai dosen Ilmu Kesehatan Masyarakat Fakultas Ilmu Keolahragaan (FIK) Unnes, diantaranya Karbon Monoksida, Nekotin, Tar, Karsinogen, dan Iritan.

Karbon Monoksida, jelas dr Azam dapat mengikat oksigen dalam tubuh sehingga tubuh kekurangan oksigen, Nikotin membuat orang ketagihan dan merusak jaringan otak bisa menyebabkan pembekuan darah juga mengeraskan dinding arteri.

“Sedangkan, Tar merupakan bahan dasar pembuatan aspal sehingga bisa menempel pada paru-paru, juga bisa membunuh sel dalam saluran darah, serta bisa meningkatkan produksi lendiri pada paru-paru.” Ujar dr Azam.

Orang yang merokok aktif dapat terindikasi menderita kanker paru-paru, kanker payudara, penyakit jantung, impotensi, dan berisiko pada wanita hamil serta kandungannya. Bayi yang terlahir dari seorang ibu perokok aktif dapat menyebabkan risiko cacat mental, masalah kesehatan hingga meningkatkan risiko kematian bagi ibu dan bayinya, tegas dr Azam.

Perokok pasif juga sangat besar risikonya sama dengan perokok aktif, apalagi bagi anak kecil dan bayi bisa mati mendadak karena sesak bernafas.

dr Azam menyarankan, untuk perokok pasif jauhi asap rokok dari perokok aktif. Adapun bagi  perokok aktif, sebaiknya menghormati orang-orang yang tidak merokok.

dr Azam mengimbau, jika perokok aktif ingin berhenti merokok tapi sulit melakukannya yakni tanamkan motivasi yang tinggi untuk berhenti merokok pada diri anda.

Ihfan salah satu peserta Diklat juga sebagai perokok aktif mengaku setelah mengikuti kegiatan ini termotivasi. “saya secara pribadi sebagai perokok aktif merasa termotivasi dan berniat berhenti merokok, selain itu kegiatan ini juga sangat bermanfaat mohon sering diselenggarakan,” kata Ihfan. Apa perokok semua yg mau comment.He…he….., pengalaman pernah debat sama perokok, ya ujung2 nya ga mau diingetkan, lha wong pabriknya aja ngasih beasiswa sama mahasiswa dan memperkerjakan banyak kerjaan utk menghidupi banyak keluarga…gmn mau berhenti pada merokok klo pabriknya menyejahterakan pekerja ….begitu katanya.
